Vinson Landscaping

Vinson Landscaping is an End-to-End website, that offers light and dark mode, focused on providing lawn care tips and services.

Background

It Was All A Dream

Vinson landscaping is a business that my dad started over 25 years.
Although he has done great work throughout the years, he has never had a website or app for his business.

Problem

‘Why didn’t I Think Of This?’

Since my dad has never had a website before, it is my goal to create an End to End website that is easy to use and understand.

Objective

Accessibility

Create an accessible website for customers to book lawn care services.

Is The Grass Always Greener?

User Persona

Based on my research, I created a user persona. Meet James, A retired Veteran whose goal is to relax as much as possible.

Sitemap

Users found it important that they were able to see photos and reviews from the company they want to book a service with. I also found out that although users like service packages, they also like have the ability to select one or numerous services that aren’t in a package.

User Flow

Book Consultation: James is a retired veteran that has a passion for traveling. Because of this, his yard care has suffered; he just doesn’t have enough time in his to maintain his yard. His neighbor suggested he book a consultation with Vinson Landscaping. While browsing their website he decided to book a consultation for the Gold plan since it is a great price and will take care of his lawn care needs.

Book Appointment: Now that James has received his free consultation from Vinson Landscaping, it is time for him to book his lawn mowing appointment. He is going to review the quote information provided by the lawn care specialist and book his appointment.

Task Flow

Book Consultation: James is a 67 year old retired veteran who has a passion for traveling the world. Because of this passion, he isn’t home very much and his yard suffers for it. His neighbor uses Vinson Landscaping to keep their yard in shape, so James goes online and books a consultation to get a quote for his yard.

Book Appointment: Now that James has received his free consultation from Vinson Landscaping, it is time for him to book his lawn mowing appointment. He is going to review the quote information provided by the lawn care specialist and book his appointment.

Brainstorming Ideas

Low/Mid Fi Wireframes

After brainstorming, I created low/mid fi screens to show a good flow I would like users to take when navigating through the site. Users will be able to add multiple services, and receive notification pop ups.

Hi Fi Mockups

Below are a a few Hi Fi Mockup screens (light and dark mode) and UI Kit created from UI Kit.

Prototype Before Testing

Flowers Bloom

Task 1: Browse through Vinson Landscaping’s products and services. Once you’re done, book your free consultation.

Task 2: Review contract agreement and set an appointment for the service you selected.

Priority Revisions

Breadcrumb

Key Finding: After testing, I noticed the breadcrumb was fairly large.

Solution: I made the breadcrumb smaller and add a section header so users can know where they are in process.

Before

After

Skip Button

Key Findings: During testing, I found that users felt obligated to opt into a lawn care plan because there wasn’t a ‘skip’ option.

Solution: Added a skip button for users to decided if they wanted to opt into plan

Before

After

Removal of Card Information

Key Findings: During testing, users were confused as to why they had to input their card information to book a consultation.

Solution: Removed the option for users to input card information for consultation, that will the user won’t feel pressured to book service.

Next Steps and Reflection

Suggested Next Steps

If given more time, I would create a screen where users can view and navigate to other services instead of just seeing the plans. I would also create a prototype of a user uploading a photo to show the landscapers their lawn. My goal is to create a chat service so they can chat with the landscapers regarding their concerns.

Once these screens are created, I would conduct another usability test and receive and implement any feedback give. Once complete, I would hand off to developers.

Reflection

I wanted to create this website to honor my dad since he has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my career change. I was so excited to do this project. Although I am not as educated on lawn care, my dad made sure he provided with as much information as he could so I could be successful. There are some changes I would love to make, and I may in the future. I have learned so much through this project and look forward to utilizing what i learned in the future.
